The definition of a robot is "a machine capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically, especially one programmable by a computer"

The interest in robotics is that they are often complex, having to perform multiple tasks, often at the same time. They generally incorporate some form of motion with sensing with feedback.

Mechanical and mechatronics design

I performed the mechanical and mechatronic design of a fully autonomous robot that lives on the hull of a ship, cleaning off algae during normal operation.

The advantages - up to 50% improvement in fuel consumption. Considerably fewer trips to the dry-dock to have the algae removed and the hull re-painted. Reduced cross-contamination in our oceans.

Robots that seperate blood into its constituents and extract the plasma, where the DNA is held. These samples are then stored at -20 degrees Celsius, with storage and retreival preformed by a robot.

I also worked on -80 degree Celsius storage solutions, and a robot that seals the phials.

Robot arms are used to perform either repetitive, skilled or dangerous tasks, such as the precise welding of thin sheet metal parts, or the loading of furnaces.

The picture shows a robot that loads and unloads material blanks into a CNC machine, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
